The Town of Stratford is currently accepting applications for the position of Per Diem Paramedic.
Brief Job Description: Per Diem Paramedics needed for busy Emergency Medical Service (Emergency calls only). SEMS is part of CT’s SW Region 1 EMS system. The Town of Stratford’s EMS is a municipal, Third Service department serving a community of over 52,000 residents with both BLS and ALS. level response, care & transport. Seasonal populations can double due to our beaches and forest. SEMS responds to over 7500+ 9-1-1 emergencies per year. There are two major highways, 2 airports (fixed and rotor wing), 1 rail station, 1 SNF and 1 assisted living center.
SEMS has a Special Operations Team, Medical Bike unit, Field Training Officer and Honor Guard. SEMS provides Event Medical Standby coverage to over 30 special events per year throughout the community.
Safety is a foundational aspect of our approach: All vehicles are >8 years old and are standardized – AEV Sprinter and Type II ambulances, plus police interceptor Ford Explorers are all equipped with Apple iPAD Mobile Data Terminals and field documentation platforms, Stryker Powerload/PowerCot & Stair Chair equipped, Lucas devices, ergonomic gear bags, LifePak 15 monitors & Tactical Ballistic gear. We use the Medical Priority Dispatch System for EMD and actively review and adjust response levels and modes regularly. We are a HEARTSafe workplace and issue P100 masks to all staff. We offer the EMS Safety and Defensive Tactics for EMS certification course to all staff for Free and more. . .
Training & Education: Our Training & Education Center provides hundreds of live, virtual and distributive education through our Field Training & Evaluation program. Staff with an EMS-Instructor or interest in teaching and coaching will have opportunities to get involved in our educational programs.
Required: Connecticut driver’s license and excellent driving record, State of Connecticut Paramedic License (and NRP preferred) with current AHA CPR, ACLS, PALS, ITLS or PHTLS required and a minimum of two (2) years experience as a working paramedic preferred. Must obtain CEVO IV driving certification within six (6) months of employment (EVOC accepted). NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800.
Schedule: The ideal candidate is available for shifts during Monday – Friday 0700-1300 & 1300-1900 (12 hour shifts available) and templating is available and preferred. Other hours available as defined by the EMS Administration. Shifts are 6 hour increments.
Additional requirements: Active medical control in good standing with Sponsor Hospital Council of Greater Bridgeport Medical Control (SHCGB) for a minimum of one (1) year preferred. Must obtain CEVO 4 driving certification within six (6) months of employment.
