About this session:

This 2 hour, Individual Core Content (ICC), Continuing Medical Education (CME) session hosted by Stratford EMS will cover Non-Violent Communications in EMS

Non-violent communication is based on the principles of non-violence, which are seen at various points throughout history. The principles of non-violent communication each revolve around one central concept – the positive feeling we receive when authentically and compassionately connecting with another human being.

The emphasis in non-violent communication is always on deep listening – far deeper than we are normally socialized to listen, both to ourselves and to others. This practice helps us to learn how to clearly identify what we are watching play out in front of us, while understanding the emotions we are feeling in that moment, the values we want to live by, and being able to identify what we want to ask of ourselves and others.

The goal of non-violent communication is to reduce language related to blame, judgement, and/or domination, and instead experience pleasure in being able to contribute to our own well-being, along with the well-being of others.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify the four components of NVC.
  1. Participants will be able to name the five steps of NVC conflict resolution.
