Description: Emergency preparedness hinges on knowing what to prepare for. Epidemiology can and does inform all fields of medicine through an evidence-based assessment of health outcomes and risk. This class will share the fundamentals of epidemiology in a broad sense and relate them to EMS operations.

Lecturer: Maureen Brophy, MPH, EMT

Maureen is an epidemiologist in Arizona, specializing in vector-borne disease and tribal health. After receiving her Master’s of Public Health, she moved to Zambia to work in HIV prevention and later accepted a position with Arizona’s Bureau of EMS and Trauma. She is currently a consulting tribal epidemiologist and working towards her doctorate in medical entomology at the University of Arizona.

Intended Audience: Fist Responders, Dispatchers, Medical professionals, anyone required to hold and/or maintain BLS certification in CPR/AED.
