Stratford EMS recognizes it’s volunteers during National EMS Week

STRATFORD, CT – Stratford EMS recognizes it’s volunteers during National EMS Week.

As Stratford EMS continues it strong tradition and ongoing efforts to recognize, support and sustain the volunteer program at Stratford EMS, the SEMS Administration had applied for and been approved as a “Certifying Organization” for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award Program.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is the premier, national volunteer awards program, encouraging citizens to live a life of service through presidential gratitude and national recognition. It is considered the highest volunteer recognition award in the US.  Presidential recognition sets the volunteers apart from their peers. This is a tremendous honor. Even though they may not seek recognition, their example can deliver a powerful message that encourages others to take action.

The program has 4 different award levels including the most distinguished – “Lifetime Achievement Award”. Awards are determined by the PVSA program based on volunteer hours measured cumulatively over a 12 month period or lifetime achievement.

“This week we salute the work done by EMS.  EMS staff have a rigorous training program to become either an EMT or a Paramedic professional. The responsibility is great and I applaud their job well done.  The volunteers who make up over half of the staffing do the same training while doing their work with no compensation except for the personal reward of helping the residents of Stratford.  Please thank  Stratford EMS the next time you see them in your neighborhood.”  said Larry Ciccarelli, Public Safety Director.

“This week is an opportunity to honor the important work done by our EMS professionals here in Stratford who are on the front lines saving lives,” said Mayor Laura R. Hoydick.  “Our EMS professionals represent the highest level of performance and dedication which is demonstrated daily by Stratford EMS.  I hope residents will join me in thanking them during National EMS Week, and affording them this recognition which is so well-deserved.

In 2018, SEMS volunteers gave over 22,000 hours to the Town and SEMS.  Michael Loiz, Director of EMS said, “We have one of the strongest volunteer EMS programs in the state. Our volunteers continue to provide a tremendous and valuable service to SEMS and the community. We continue to be very proud of our volunteers”

May 19-25, 2019 is National EMS Week. In recognition of this special time set aside for EMS and on behalf of Stratford EMS Administration, The Director of Public Safety, The Mayor and the Town of Stratford, Stratford EMS Administration held it’s third annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at Stratford EMS Headquarters on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 1800.  The special ceremony lasted about an hour and included refreshments immediately following.
