Stratford EMS receives Governor’s Award – For an organization that has positively impacted the EMS system.
STRATFORD, May 1, 2015 — In conjunction with National Emergency Medical Services Week 2015 (May 18-23), the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Connecticut Regional EMS Councils honor state Emergency Medical Services providers for their outstanding service. The annual State EMS Awards recognize Connecticut EMS providers in nine award categories.
Stratford EMS has been awarded the Governor’s Award – For an organization that has positively impacted the EMS system. This award was established to recognize and commend an EMS Organization, whether career or volunteer in structure, that has enhanced the understanding and support of the EMS System through their public service, community education and contributions to a city, town, region or the state as a whole. During the past few years, SEMS has worked hard to enhance it’s services, provide more public information and education and has re-established itself as a leader in the EMS Community.
Stratford EMS Volunteer EMT and EMS-Instructor, Karen Marino has been awarded Paul Winfield Smith Award – For Educational Excellence. The intent of the Paul Winfield Smith Instructional Achievement Award is to recognize and commend an EMS educator who excels as an instructor and/or has made a significant contribution to EMS through education. Karen has been teaching in EMS for over 18 years and was instrumental in the public education efforts that led to the “re-designation” of Stratford as a HEARTSafe Community. Karen also teaches for the Stratford Public School system.
Stratford EMS Full Time Paramedic Mike Paoletto has been awarded the Gerald Ferrari Award – For “Behind the Scene” Supporters of EMS. The Gerald Ferrari Award was established to recognize and commend individuals who are “behind the scene” supporters of Emergency Medical Services in Connecticut, the unsung heroes whose work often goes on behind the scene and typically goes unnoticed and unappreciated. Mikes work with the Regional Council regarding Honor Guard representation for supporting and recognizing EMS providers during their most difficult times, has been recognized throughout the region and now at the State level as well. Mike is also a Paramedic with Trumbull EMS / Danbury Ambulance.
“We are proud of our staff and the work they accomplish each and every day. We are humbled by this recognition and continue to strive to provide high quality emergency medical services here in Connecticut and to the residents of the Town of Stratford”, said Michael Loiz, Director of EMS.
“This award recognizes a job well done by the entire team at Stratford EMS,” said Mayor John Harkins. “I applaud the commitment and performance of the EMS administrations, supervisors, volunteers and paid staff on behalf of our community.”
There will be an awards ceremony on Monday, May 18, 2015 in the Old Judiciary Room of the State Capitol in Hartford where the awards will be received.
